Welcome to YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City, the official blog for the YUM Somerville project. Here you’ll find more information about the YUM Restaurant Card (still available!), our community partners, our restaurant participants, and our Celebration & Fundraiser event (which was a huge success, so thank you!). You can even see a little of what went on behind the scenes in a Tufts University course–led by Dr. Jennifer Burtner, who spearheaded the Tufts/Tisch College side of the YUM project–called Economic Anthropology in Action: The Very Social Business of Survival, where students conducted surveys, wrote reviews, and participated in discussions, readings, and presentations. YUM will continue to work with our Somerville partners to promote awareness of the incredible culinary and cultural diversity right here in our own neighborhood.
If you’re feeling hungry or just like trying something new, check out our immigrant-owned restaurant participants to the right; we’ve got pictures, introductions, and food reviews either posted or coming soon. Be warned–photographs may induce serious hunger pangs.
We’re updating YUM all the time, and we also have an introductory video, radio interviews, and all sorts of other projects in the pipeline, so stay tuned!
In the area? Stop by! Need directions? Look no further.
